The idea of taking a holiday in a motorhome brings to mind the wide open spaces of the USA and Australia, but if you stop and think about it, the United Kingdom is a perfect place for a mobile home holiday, and figures show motorhomes are being bought with the idea of renting them out to holiday makers in ever increasing volumes.
The call of the wild and the opportunity to combine this with a holiday taking in lots of well established tourist areas is easy to do in the UK because of its geography. It is especially easy if you have a recreational vehicle (RV) such as a motorhome or campervan, and although RVs maybe expensive to buy they are becoming increasingly more attractive to hire. Motorhome hire firms say business has risen by 53% compared with 2011 while manufacturers report sales and orders up by around 18%. The figures come as the summer school holidays have started and thousands of mobile homes head out onto Britain’s roads. Figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club also show that bookings for motorhomes at its sites are up by 41% on last year which is a larger increase than for caravans (20%) or tents (29%).
It can cost over £4,000 to take a family of six to Spain for a holiday but they can rent a motorhome for less than a third of that including site fees and motorhome insurance. People have less disposable income and are looking for ways to have a cheap but enjoyable holiday.
Motorhomes are a great way to do this and they also take away the fear that some have about towing a caravan. Spontaneity and independence are two obvious advantages of a holiday in a motorhome. Everyone is free to decide where they want to go and when, they can even change their minds at the last minute and instead head off in a completely different direction. It really is easy to see why more and more people are choosing to holiday in the United Kingdom by motorhome, after all who doesn’t want to save money and be master of their own destiny? With a motorhome, a family, couple or individual can do both in comfort.
