City breaks increasing in popularity among motorhome loving Brits

Recent research has shown that an increasing number of British motorhome owners are taking out motorhome insurance policies with European travel included and are deciding to enjoy a city break abroad instead of a UK getaway. The research found that those mobile home owners who either plan to go, or have been for a city break has increased by 37% this year, when compared to 2011. Over half (53%) were more attracted to the idea of travelling to and seeing the sights and sounds of a city rather than driving around the countryside of the UK. On top of this 63% stated that they made the choice of a city break because it is considerably less boring than a UK holiday.

The research found the historical Italian city of Rome to be the most popular amongst British motorhome owners. This is because there is so much for them to take in around the destination, with the Pantheon representing one of the world’s best-preserved ancient buildings and the Colosseum allowing tourists to walk around an arena designed for the heyday of the Roman Empire. Completed in 80 AD and originally used for public entertainment and gladiatorial contests, today the partly-ruined structure is a major tourist attraction.

Another Italian city, the floating paradise of Venice, ranked in second place and is popular with younger motorhome owners (those aged 25 to 35 years of age) who want a romantic getaway. Another destination in easy reach for a motorhome holiday is Portugal. This is a popular destination with the older mobile home owners (those aged 45 to 55 years of age) but in truth it is a country with something for every motorhome user. From historic cities such as Porto to the rich cultural centre of Lisbon, Portugal is packed full of museums, monuments and stunning architecture. If cities aren’t what mobile home owners are after, they can drive their motorhome anywhere in the stunning countryside. Mountains, vast arid plains, sub-tropical volcanic islands and lush-green meadows are plentiful, not forgetting the 528 miles of sandy beaches that make Portugal a perfect place to motorhome.
